Columba Bush Launches 2011-2012 Arts for Life! Program
Tallahassee, FL – Columba Bush and the Foundation for Excellence in Education today launched the 2011-2012 Arts for Life!Â Program. Annually, Arts for Life! recognizes 25 graduating high school seniors from across Florida for outstanding achievement in the arts. Each recipient receives a $1,000 cash scholarship toward their pursuit of the arts in higher education.
Columba Bush, Florida’s First Lady from 1999-2007, is a passionate advocate for the arts and arts education. In 1999, she established Arts for Life!, a scholarship program to recognize the creativity and artistic talents of high school students throughout Florida. To date, the program has awarded scholarships to more than 300 gifted high school seniors in the field of visual arts, dance, drama, music and creative writing.
2011 Arts for Life! Scholarship Winners
Tallahassee, FL – Former First Lady Columba Bush and the Foundation for Excellence in Education today announced the 2011 Arts for Life! scholarship winners. These winners were selected from 444 outstanding high school seniors from 37 counties across Florida. Students in public, magnet, charter, private schools and home education vied for the prestigious award. This year’s scholarship winners were selected by a committee of respected experts in the scholarship’s five disciplines. Arts for Life! awarded fourteen visual artists, four musicians, three creative writers, three actors and one dancer with scholarships to support these young artists as they continue to develop their skills.
“For over a decade, Arts for Life! has helped hundreds of emerging Florida artists pursue their passion for the arts after graduation”, said Mrs. Bush. “I am proud to recognize this year’s scholarship recipients for their academic and artistic excellence.”
