Columba Bush Launches 2012-2013 Arts for Life! Scholarship Program
Tallahassee, FL – Columba Bush and the Foundation for Excellence in Education today launched the 2012-2013 Arts for Life! Program. Annually, Arts for Life! recognizes 25 graduating high school seniors from across Florida for outstanding achievement in the arts. Each recipient receives a $1,000 cash scholarship toward their pursuit of the arts in higher education.
Columba Bush, Florida’s First Lady from 1999-2007, is a passionate advocate for the arts and arts education. In 1999, she established Arts for Life!, a scholarship program to recognize the creativity and artistic talents of high school students throughout Florida. To date, the program has awarded scholarships to more than 325 gifted high school seniors representing the visual arts, dance, drama, music and creative writing.
2012 Arts for Life! Scholarship Winners
Tallahassee, FL – Former First Lady Columba Bush and the Foundation for Excellence in Education today announced the 2012 Arts for Life! scholarship winners. These winners were selected from over 340 outstanding high school seniors from 43 counties across Florida. Students in public, magnet, charter, private schools and home education programs vied for the prestigious award. This year’s scholarship winners were selected by a committee of respected experts in the scholarship’s five disciplines. Arts for Life! awarded twelve visual artists, five musicians, four creative writers, three actors and one dancer with scholarships to support their creative pursuits in higher education. “Since 1999, Arts for Life! has recognized hundreds of students in Florida for their creative and academic excellence,” said Mrs. Bush. “I am proud to support this year’s scholarship recipients as they continue their pursuit of the arts.”

2011-2012 Arts for Life! Scholarship Opportunity
Tallahassee, FL – Students graduating from a public or private school or a home education program in Florida in the Spring of 2012 are eligible to apply for the 2011-2012 Arts for Life! scholarship. This program annually awards $1,000 scholarships to 25 graduating high school seniors who demonstrate excellence in visual art, music, dance, drama or creative writing. Launched by former First Lady Columba Bush in 1999, the program has awarded scholarships to more than 300 gifted high school seniors.
Interested students should submit a completed application, a brief essay explaining “How the arts have positively influenced my life” and a portfolio of work in visual art, music, dance, drama or creative writing. The application deadline is February 1, 2012.
