She put me to bed
And kissed me goodnight
She told me she loved me
And held me tight
She told me stories of lands far away
Where I can see any and everything in sight
She never left when I asked her to stay
But climbed in with me and stayed through the night
Hours passed but the storm outside raged on
Pulling her closer with each flash of the sky
To calm me, she sang a soothing song
Her promise to never say goodbye
Many years gone by, and roles have changed
I put her to bed and hear the rain
I watch her close her eyes as I sing goodbye
And see her sleep peacefully to her favorite lullaby
